Good to know

The essentials about the official PSC process.

How to register for the SLE

The SLE is administered by the Public Service Commission of Canada (PSC), not booked like a commercial exam. In most cases:

  1. You apply for a Government of Canada position with a English second-language requirement.
  2. The hiring department refers you for SLE testing (Reading, Written Expression and/or Oral), usually through the PSC.
  3. You receive an invitation with the date, format and level required for the job.
  4. You take the official test through the PSC. Your result is stated as a level: A, B or C (or E for exemption).

test2pass.ca is an independent practice platform and is not affiliated with the PSC or the Government of Canada. Always confirm the official process on the Government of Canada website for your position.

SLE levels and scores

SLE Writing results are reported as a level: A (basic), B (intermediate), C (advanced professional) or E (exemption). The level you need depends on the job. Our practice is organised by level so you can target exactly what your position requires.

Retaking the SLE

The PSC applies a waiting period before you can retake an SLE test. Consistent practice between attempts is the best way to move up a level — repeat our tests as often as you like and review your weak categories each time.

Revision pages & Knowledge Hub
